Nike KD 17 Penny - a Close Up Look at the Zoom Strobel
#sneakerunboxing
The KD 17 looks a lot like the Air Max Plus in its design which makes it perfect for wearing on and off the court. The tech features loaded Zoom Air forefoot pad, but it's the full length Zoom Air Strobel under the insole which makes for a fast break in for hoopers.
This version celebrates the 90s and is the perfect colorway for fans of the Orlando Magic and Penny Hardaway who is coaching at his alma mater, The University of Memphis Tigers.

Noah Lyles Needs Facts Instead of Emotional Outbursts

#noahlyles #signaturesneakers This is not a video disparaging Noah. I'm a fan of his. This video is meant to offer him material to make a pitch for a signature sneaker. When comparing social media followings of the signature athletes for adidas to Noah Lyles, it's easy to see why adidas gave signature models to hoopers. The NBA and Hip-Hop are foundational to sneaker culture. But if Noah paused...

Thanks for making a video! I just ordered them since they were on sale 😅 I thought they looked dope in the pictures and now that I’ve seen a video I can appreciate them even more
Great video and I love the breakdown by the numbers! I think that Noah can be marketed as a sprinter with crossover appeal and have signature line of running, lifestyle sneakers and spikes. They key is whether adidas has the ability the craft and tell his story properly.
@@DeeWells they don't even have to work that hard. Noah has one of the fastest growing UA-cam channels in athletics. He does a combination of training, hobby and fashion. If the brand took just a second to place an emphasis on his training gear and then implement a grassroots track strategy in the U.S. with a better ATL Games concept they could really do more quicker than a traditional rollout. Use what you have already, just do it better and consistently.
great analysis, great video!
@@GREEVIP always trying to introduce new perspectives, I appreciate you taking a moment to check it out.
Who has a signature spike? Did Usain Bolt have one? If so, no one I know cared about it. We only pay attention to track & field because of the olympics. And that's every 4 years. It doesn't even have the argument that soccer (football) being the #1 sport in the world. Basketball is 24/7/365. It's put in our faces all the time. A lot of those followers that these basketball players have come from China. Can Noah Lyles promote himself in China? The sentiment I agree with is what the shoes selling in third party, but those athletes also have takedown models that bring the overall cost down.
@@wade_county no one has had a signature spike. It's a niche category of course, but your response is a very American response and a part of the reason brands are failing to capitalize on the sport. Here is a small data set: Event Date UA-cam Views 400 Hurdles June 25th 2022 400 hurdles national title 915,234 views Warriors Championship Highlight June 18th 2022 NBA FINALS GAME 6 - UA-cam 694,228 views Royals vs Angels MLB June 23 2022 Royals vs. Angels Game Highlights 315,510 views U.S. Open Victory PGA June 19 2022 U.S. Open victory 10,576 views There is a small European high jump channel on UA-cam named Gbutakin. There is a two year old video of a girls under 16 competition. It has 3.5 million views. You have to broaden your scope on sports to understand how streaming has changed how we watch sports. More importantly you have to consider how many people actually run vs hoop. Puma completely underutilized Bolt and now they are trying to figure out how to recapture some of the running market when they had all of the best runners in track for years and never did anything with them while Nike created PEs for Eliud Kipchoge and on the walls of all of their stores you will see ShaCarri. Noah has more international appeal but China is really the reason for signature hoops kicks. That country is the U.S. in the 90s so it makes sense, but running moves units and if brands decided to focus on sprinting just as much as 5ks and jogging sales would explode. On takedowns, there aren hardly any takedowns in the data. They are almost all flagship.
@@archbyccb On the streaming part you're not accounting TV numbers that people watch live. Plus how they also distribute those rights across the globe. If you include those numbers from here in the US plus BBC, CBC, ESPN International etc it will pale in comparison. You can't even sell ads because you watch a sprint or a relay in a 1 to 2 minute tiktok and be done with it. Yes, I agree that Puma dropped the ball with Usain Bolt but it's not the first time that's happened. As far making the argument of getting a shoe not a spike to Lyles how do you sell that? Makes more sense him wearing whatever Adizero or UltraBoost before throwing his spikes on. Even Patrick Mahomes who wears cleats for his day job can't move his sneakers and he plays for the NFL. As always love your videos, they're very insightful.
@@wade_county I think I may have conflated a few things so I need to pull back. At the start of the video I explain that no one needs a signature and that Noah should have a design team with PEs. I agree he could wear inline kicks, but my point is if Noah wants to argue he has data to support him. I mistakenly shifted to streaming and sports viewership because it's tied to sneaker sales in many ways but followers and viewership aren't really guarantees of success for the sale of a sneaker. In many ways shoe sales are now determined by availability more than connection to an athlete. Education is becoming more important than an endorsement. I have to be careful also making China into a whale. Nationalism is disrupting sneaker sales in China. India is becoming more important. There is a lot to discuss here and I truly appreciate your thoughts. They are always on point!
Should Noah have a signature sneaker?
Hey! Planning on doing some type of Olympics recap? Would love to hear your take on which brands won/lost and if there’s potential for a track & field bump in popularity

@@coachmiller5226 ZoomX is incredible ain't it? The problem is that 200 dollar price tag. It's so expensive it could stop a lot of people from really buying it. I wish I would have said something about how the LeBron at 200 has become a clearance store staple and the flagship Jordans are doing the same. This one feels a bit different.

Well said, Nike basically lost their formula. The fact that AE and Curry aren't Nike athletes says it all. Like you said, they forgot about what made them hot and started following the hype, Off White, Travis Scott, Union and other artists / fashion brands. Also the inflated prices played a part in shoes sitting on shelves ...

Do you think that the issue with people’s perception of “non-innovation” is that the cycles of fashion have just not lended well to the shoes these technologies are in? Cause for the few efforts Nike has tried to make to bring tech like the Air/Zoom Strobel to the Dunk, or unlocked Zoom pods to casual Nike Sportswear, they just don’t seem to take off. React seems like the last innovation that Nike was able to shift into different product categories for the athlete and the layman.
Ten-fold issue on both the consumer and seller side of the equation. There are so many reasons it would require a two-semester class to get through the first two problems: too many options and an impatient consumer. We've been in a flick to scroll society for over ten years. It's limited engagement time with consumers. If an image/video isn't immediately attention grabbing, the finger flicks or scrolls to the next item. This diminished the amount of time a brand has to explain. Live television is dead so you don't get cool commercials with slo-mo imagery of a collapsing Air bubble, or Vince Carter demonstrating "Boing" with Shox. The amount of product on walls at shoe stores provides option, but there isn't any room to feature even an athlete poster on the interior of a store. You can only visually merchandise the window which is unseen because people are on their phones. You asked a great question, but your question is the foundation of a thesis for a book.
Great video!
